I had some Mexican tiles I wanted to use but I wasn't sure how to use them or what tiles would go with them. I was looking at tiles and feeling a bit bewildered, when Leslie asked if I needed some help. I stopped in your store on a Saturday morning because I was told there were tile places out on Rutland, and after driving around and not knowing where to start, I came into your place. I recently worked with Leslie in designing the back splash for our kitchen. Or, weathered-looking tile intercut with porcelain decorative tiles give that hand-painted, Spanish feel. Though nothing beats a wood deck, it’s not the most durable option when you consider how much heat and sun it’s going to get laying poolside year round. To create an outdoor living space that feels ultra modern, not to mention cool on your feet, try a stone-looking, or concrete-looking porcelain tile. The wider the better is the current trend in contemporary tile design, both inside and out. If you’re thinking about a quick remodel before it gets too hot, here are some ideas that might inspire you to spruce up your outdoor space.įor a modern twist on a stone aesthetic, these tile quadrants placed on a diagonal across a lush lawn create an upscale elegance to any patio, poolside or landscape design. After 48 hours, apply grout sealer onto every grout surface, to ensure that it is impervious to moisture and other contaminants.Grab your lemonade and citronella candles because it’s time for lounging on the patio. After about 20 minutes, clean the excess grout on the surfaces of the tiles using a damp sponge. Use a rubber float to apply the grout around every replacement tile. When the tile adhesive has cured, prepare some grout. Place the tile into the cavity, and let the adhesive cure for about 6 hours or so. Apply the adhesive at the underside of the tile as well. Apply adhesive on the base of the cavity according to manufacturer’s instructions. Cut the tile accordingly, until it can fit through the hole perfectly, with enough space for grouting. Step 4 – Install Replacement Tilesįit the replacement tile into the vacated cavity to check if it fits. Before installing the replacement, make sure the entire cavity is free from grout, adhesive, and other debris. Extract the tile and clean the adhesive with a putty knife, scraper or sandpaper. Cut the grout around the edges along the tile perimeter, until the tile can be removed easily. Position the sharp edge of the chisel on the grout around the tile, and lightly tap it with the hammer to break the tile free. Use a small sharp chisel and a light hammer for this purpose. Wear protective gloves and safety goggles before working. When grout sealer touches the tiles, wipe it with a damp cloth. Use a small, artist's brush when applying sealer. Apply grout sealer to the grout lines, to protect them from liquids and other contaminants. Clean the surfaces of the tiles with a damp sponge, and let the grout cure for 48 hours. ![]() Apply it to the joints using a rubber float, and let it set for about 20 minutes. ![]() ![]() Mix new grout in a container accordingly. Remove the residue from joints to prepare for re-grouting. Just remove the damaged portion and leave the inner grout intact. When the damage only involves the grout on the joints, use a grout saw to remove the cracked top layer. When purchasing replacements, find those that are an exact match, or at least the nearest possible color, pattern and texture. If some of the tiles are damaged, prepare replacement tiles, so that these damaged ones can be replaced. If the grout lines are cracked, the tiles do not need to be removed. Inspect every tile and grout joint, to see which parts need to be repaired.
